We have submitted our comments on plans for 595 flats in blocks rising to 9 storeys on the Mitcham gas works site.

We are pleased that six ward councillors from Lavendar, Figges Marsh and Cricket Green wards have all also submitted comments noting serious concerns. The other three councillors for these wards are all on the Planning Applications Committee and we understand why they have declined to make public comment We look to all the councillors in these three wards to speak out against the proposals when they go to Planning Applications Committee.

Many local people have voiced their objections, and the number of objections is growing daily.

Anyone wishing to object may find our representation a useful starting point. You may also want to look at some of the documents provided by the developer, and you will find them here.

The number of documents might be daunting, but you may find a focus on the Design and Access Statements and the two Townscape and Visual Impact Appraisal documents most useful. The latter have images of the effect this huge development would have on what we see as we move around Mitcham. We have some extracts from this document in our representation - do take a look.

Email your objection to planning.representations@merton.gov.uk. Remember to:
  • Put the application reference in the subject line. It is 22/P3620 Mitcham Gas Works
  • Include your name and address
  • Be clear that you would like the the application to be refused.
